Abrams Falls
Today's picture features scenic Abrams Falls in Mendota, Virginia.
Although it is located just a short drive from the city of Bristol,
the Abrams Falls site is rather difficult to get to. First, you have to drive
about two miles down a narrow gravel road, then park your car and walk several
hundred yards down a very steep and treacherous footpath, crossing fallen
logs as you make your way.
Once you get to the falls, you'll find yourself looking down at them. To reach a
vantage point where you can look up at them you have to climb down a very steep
bank. It's easy to get hurt trying to see Abrams Falls, and many visitors do.
Unless you're very experienced with the outdoors and quite sure-footed, the best
way to enjoy Abrams Falls is by looking at photographs.
A visit to southwest Virginia offers miles and miles of scenic
drives and hikes.
You'll see picturesque mountain
views, lakes,
crystal clear rushing
streams, hay fields, and
plenty of horses,
cows and goats grazing
in lush green pasture fields. And if you aren't faint of heart, you can even
visit Abrams Falls.
